Chemical nomenclature converter · OPSIN

IUPAC / systematic name → SMILES

Parse a systematic chemical name into a molecular graph with OPSIN, then validate and canonicalize the result with RDKit. This is a nomenclature parser, not a synonym database: trade names and generic names should be resolved separately.

Chemical name

One name at a time. Stereodescriptors such as (R), (S), (E) and (Z) are retained when OPSIN can interpret them.

2D structure check

Server-rendered from the parsed SMILES with RDKit. Always inspect the graph before treating a converted patent name as chemically confirmed.
Convert a name to draw the resulting structure.
Scope. OPSIN is designed for systematic organic chemical nomenclature. A successful parse means the name was interpretable under its nomenclature rules; it does not prove that an OCR-corrupted patent name was repaired correctly. Likewise, a leading optical-rotation sign such as (+) or (−) does not by itself specify R/S configuration, so this page flags it rather than inventing stereochemistry.
